Meta Descritpion SEO photoMeta Description is a brief description of each page or website. Meta Description Tag must be unique for each page and it is a very important piece in terms of Search Engine Optimization (SEO).  Almost all the major search engines like Yahoo, Google, Bing and Altavista use your description tag. You have a direct input on the way people will see your website in the list of results. And because you control this you can influence the click-behavior.

The Meta Description Tag should be placed in section <head> of the website and you should avoid using special characters like: !, @, #, $, %  or diacritics.

The syntax used for the Meta Description Tag is <meta content=” the description of the page “>. Example:  <meta content=”Digg is a place for people to discover and share content from anywhere on the web. From the biggest online destinations to the most obscure blog, Digg surfaces the best stuff as voted on by our users” /> (the original Digg.com meta description tag)
The description should have up to 300 characters.  Google will display a maximum of 152-154 characters on its pages with results and any content that exceeds the limit of 152 characters is completely ignored. Yahoo will display up to 225 characters and Bing will display a maximum of 300 characters.

The Search Engine will read the description tag of the web site and will check if the keywords or search terms match your title tag and content of the website. So, if you wish to use search terms inside your title as keywords then you should insert search terms inside your description tag in combination with other keywords.
