RSS
RSS (Rich Site Summary) is an open protocol for publishing information on the web. Web feeds are used by the blogging community to share recent entries’ headlines, full text, and even attached multimedia files. These providers allow other websites to incorporate the blog’s “syndicated” headline or headline-and-short-summary feeds under various usage agreements.
An RSS feed is an XML file that describes the content of a website, being updated with it. Originally used to create My Netscape page, RSS has been adopted by news syndication services, weblogs, etc.
An RSS file includes a logo, link to the website, a reading field and an item.
RSS is important for making users informed about updates of online resources, without recourse to e-mails or newsletters, inherently reducing the possibility of receiving spam and viruses.
